- The mermaid bride:
Picture a wedding party posed in some sterile venue - a banquet hall or community center, maybe. The people appear eastern European, but that's just an impression. One man wears a blue sash across his chest; he sits with a woman wearing a red sash. The groom wears a black suit with a white shirt. He has blond hair in a military cut and a slightly crooked nose. He stands with his arm wrapped around his bride. The bride has dark hair piled on top of her head. Her wedding dress is made of two pieces. The top consists of sequined white clam shells tied together with beaded string. Strands of pearly beads loop from one clam shell to the other, draping over her stomach. The skirt is a long straight fall of layered tulle. It dips perilously low, front and back, resting just barely on her hips like a belly dancer's costume. The hipline (there is no waistline) is embellished with shields of white and iridescent sequins and strands of pearly beads. A white sequined band hung with strings of pearl beads circles each arm. She holds a large bouquet of white flowers, like stargazer lilies, but without the pink center. The bride wears her dress with panache. Sometimes it seems like she's smirking at the world, while other times her face is lit with the joy of a woman on her wedding day.
